As one of 13 children, S. L. Jones was born to a sharecropper. This former West Virginia railroad man made his mark in the art world with his expressive drawings and carvings he began to do when he retired in the late 1960s.
Jones's figures, often depicting his family, friends, and animals, include painted wooden carvings and pastel drawings, the best of which are highly sought after by collectors and museums.
